ADMISSION PROCESS image
1. Annual Procedure of Board:
a. By October 1st, the Board establishes the open enrollment period for the following school year's admissions.
b. By October 1st, the Board publishes:
i. Metro's enrollment application for the following school year.
ii. The Admissions and Lottery Policy.

2. Notice to Parents of Currently Enrolled Students and Staff:
Prior to the beginning of the open enrollment period, the school provides notice to parents of currently enrolled students and staff about the open enrollment period. This allows siblings of currently enrolled students and children of staff to submit timely applications.

3. Application Processing:

Each student, including siblings from multiple births, requires a separate application. Each application received is date-stamped for record keeping. There is no application or waiting list carryover from year to year, and applicants must submit a new application during each open enrollment period.

4. Admission for Applications Received During Open Enrollment:
All applications received during the open enrollment period are automatically admitted unless the number of applications exceeds the available capacity established by the Board for the applicable grade(s). In this case, siblings of currently enrolled students and children of staff employed at the school are admitted, and the remaining applications for the grade(s) go into a lottery.

5. General Lottery:
If the number of applications exceeds the available capacity for any grade during the open enrollment period (after siblings of enrolled students and children of staff have been admitted), a general lottery is conducted. All applications received before the expiration of the open enrollment period are included in the lottery. Students are admitted based on the order drawn in the lottery, as long as there is available capacity. If all available capacity is filled in any grade, the lottery establishes a general waiting list in the order drawn.

If a student is admitted through the general lottery and has siblings in other grades subject to a lottery, those siblings are automatically admitted once the student becomes enrolled.

6. Admission for Applications Received Outside of Open Enrollment:

a. Students who submit applications outside of the open enrollment period are automatically admitted if there is available capacity in the applicable grade, based on the order of receipt. Once there is no available capacity, these applications are added to the waiting list for the respective grade in the order received. Applications by siblings of current students and children of staff are admitted.
b. Parents/guardians of students seeking admission outside of open enrollment will be encouraged to meet with the school's Academic Director before admission to discuss enrollment expectations, transportation needs, start date, and sibling waiting list.

7. Lottery Method:
Metro conducts all lotteries through a method of computerized random selection.

8. Prohibition of Inducements:
Metro shall not distribute any services or goods of value to students, parents, or guardians as an inducement, term, or condition of enrolling a student in the school.

9. Student Enrollment Duration:
Once a student is enrolled in Metro Schools, they are considered enrolled until the student formally withdraws or is expelled under the Pupil Fair Dismissal Act.
